   Job Description

Bodle Technologies Limited is a University of Oxford spinout developing SRD®, the world’s first solid-state reflective display technology, based on phase-change materials. Providing vivid colour and video-capability, with zero energy use for static image storage, the technology is ideally suited to address the issues of poor outdoor readability and high power consumption associated with transmissive and emissive displays.

Bodle offers the opportunity to join a small, dynamic team with broad and complementary expertise and an egalitarian ethos. We aim to encourage the brightest minds to work towards achieving our strategic goals and will reward our employees for their contributions with a highly competitive salary, along with the potential for other performance-based benefits including share-options.

We are now seeking a Product Manager to direct the specification of Bodle’s first display products across the retail, wearable, public information and portable device display markets.

The successful candidate will:

  • Work with the SVP, Business Development on delivering the company’s initial product strategy within the company’s business plan.

  • Own the product from technical development through to business development. Specifically, define key product requirements and translate them into product specifications, having oversight of internal product validation activities.

  • Keep up-to-date on competitors’ products in the reflective display market, specifically how Bodle’s products compare on key attributes and cost.

  • Work closely with the technical team to ensure prototypes and technology demonstrators are aligned with the product strategy.

  • Develop marketing activities that support the product strategy.

  • Convince both internal technical stakeholders and external parties about the merits of product selection.

  • Show initiative and creativity to help achieve ambitious product milestones, proposing inventive solutions to new problems, as they arise.

  • Be flexible in their willingness to take on projects with different business elements and timescales, and quick to learn new concepts and techniques.

  • Travel to partner sites in UK, USA, East Asia, or wherever required based on business needs. Such travel might occur at short notice and urgently.

Other duties

  • Support the Executive team in commercialisation talks, including preparation of reports highlighting the role of product strategy in the business.

  • Assisting with other practical and administrative duties as required. This is a small company, and all staff members are expected to contribute to these day-to-day tasks.

Selection criteria

You should ensure that your letter of application, together with your cv, clearly indicates how your experience and qualifications fulfil the following selection criteria, as your application will be judged on that basis.

  • A good first degree (or equivalent working experience) in a business or technical discipline (product design, engineering or electronics preferred)

  • Experience of product management relating to either consumer or industrial electronic devices.

  • An understanding of the challenges and opportunities in bringing an early-stage, highly innovative product to market

  • Evidence of high self-motivation and clear ability to meet agreed deadlines

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as an active member of a team, working cooperatively within the group, while effectively planning your own workload within any given project

  • Willingness and ability to travel for short periods to work with collaborators abroad, if required

  • Experience of working with digital display products or other large-area thin-film electronics

  • Some practical skills in visualisation of product concepts through modelling, design, prototyping etc.
