DevOps Engineer required to join a talented team of experts focused on delivering high tech autonomous solutions in Oxford, OX4 on a full time permanent basis.

Our successful DevOps Engineer will use their existing SaltStack, Puppet, or Ansible skills to manage a large number of different types of systems. Joining our DevOps team, you will also:

  • Contribute to the successful development and proposal of solutions relevant to our technical estate
  • Contribute to the successful deployment of configuration management systems and surrounding infrastructure to help us deliver the latest versions of our software and appropriate configuration in a stable and efficient manner
  • Manage, maintain and improve the delivery of initial machine installations and configuration across all vehicles and other platforms
  • Deploy and verify our software to vehicles and platforms
  • Maintain and improve the configuration of our operating systems and software
  • Plan, execute and manage updates to both code and configuration
  • Report on the health and status of software configurations across the fleet of target platforms
  • Troubleshoot systems and problem solve across platform and application domains
  • Work closely with internal and external customers to understand the technical and commercial questions Oxbotica face around data and translate those into concrete workflows and dashboards using appropriate tool
  • Possess the ability to work in a ‘fluid’ and ever changing working environment


In order to succeed you should demonstrate:

  • Strong experience developing and operating configuration management systems such as SaltStack, Puppet, or Ansible to manage a large number of different types of systems across at least a 5 year period
  • Software engineering experience working with the development and deployment of C++ and Python software to a multiple platforms
  • Experience following good software development processes and working as part of an agile team with good communication skills
  • Experience using systems for monitoring the health and configuration of remote systems such as network monitoring tools like Zabbix, Icinga / Nagios, etc.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure to provide services such as package and data repositories
  • Strong scripting experience working in BASH and Python
  • Strong experience installing, configuring and managing Linux environments

Extra kudos for any of the following:

  • An interest in optimising the automatic deployment, configuration, and management of fleets of vehicles and platforms hosting our software systems
  • A degree in computer science, statistics, physics or equivalent experience
  • Experience with continuous integration systems to provide continuous delivery with pipelines defined as code (e.g. Jenkins Pipeline)
  • Experience with containers such as Docker
  • Experience with virtualisation technologies including vagrant, ESXi, etc.
  • Experience with software testing
  • Experience with MacOS as a development environment
