Laura Gonzalez is a trailblazer for Reading’s independent food scene. As founder of Pop Up Reading back in 2014, she curated a series of internationally themed supper clubs. Taking her side-hustle full-time and leaving her corporate finance day job, Laura took this idea to Nomad Bakery, the independent café and sourdough bakery. Following a soul-searching travel break across Australia, Greece and Spain, Laura was called back to the kitchen, but with a new concept that stayed true to her “nomad spirit”. Bench Rest – named after the critical bread making step that allows the dough to relax – is this format.  Currently in residence at Tasting House, Laura offers breakfast and brunch options, together with supper clubs, collaborative events, sourdough classes and catering. “I wanted to create a business that captured those chilled Aussie vibes, love for food and allowed me to keep on my creative flame alive.”

Joe Munns is founder and MD of Bakedin: a home baking brand bringing creative, modern baking to kitchens across the UK and beyond. With a diverse stockist list including Tesco, Ocado, Lakeland, Hobbycraft and QVC, their products sit in both the grocery and food gifting categories and currently available as far afield as the USA and Canada. In 2015 they received investment to build their own factory and began a collaboration with Michel Roux OBE to launch a baking kit subscription called the Bakedin Baking Club, where members receive a unique baking kit and recipe by Michel through their letterboxes every month.

Udhi Silva is Co-founder and COO of Snaffling Pig, the innovative food brand on a mission to transform the humble pork scratching – and embellish those moments we’re socialising with friends and family. Snaffling Pig started life in 2014 on the back of a £500 bet. The Snaffling Pig team have taken their range of flavoured pork crackling snacks and extended to whopping great big advent calendars, wedding favours, a beer, a hot sauce, a cookbook and a huge range of gifts. Most recently, they’ve taken on a new challenge with another neglected classic – to modernise gammon – launching a new range in Sainsbury’s this year. The team is based in Yattendon, Berkshire.
